Podiatry is a branch of medicine dealing with the treatment and prevention of lower limbs.
In Poland, podiatrist is still a not very popular profession, but it is worth mentioning that despite the name associated with doctors, podiatrist is not a medical doctor. Thanks to the Polish Podiatric Society, the profession was officially included in the list of professions practised in Poland not so long ago, on 1 January 2015.
The podiatrist must have extensive knowledge of dermatology, immunology and physiotherapy. Podiatrists often work closely with other specialists, these include dermatologists nutritionists and diabetologists, all to make the effects of the treatment even more effective.
People who primarily have problems with excessive hyperkeratosis, corns, calluses, corns, ingrown or ingrown toenails, cracked heels, tinea pedis, and diabetic foot syndrome should visit the podiatrist's office. .
It is worth mentioning that the podiatrist is not only concerned with treatment, but also with the prevention of the above-mentioned conditions. Podiatrist's work is based on an individual approach to each patient. From the very entrance, he has to pay attention to the patient's gait, check whether the biomechanics of the gait is not disturbed, in order to select an appropriate method of treatment in a further interview. He cannot treat everyone the same, as everyone has different conditions.
If, for example, there has been negligence in the care of the skin of the feet and nails, the podiatrist performs treatments of various types to bring relief to the patient and consequently eliminate both the problem and its cause.
The basic podiatry procedure, as the name suggests, includes a thorough podiatric consultation with an examination of the feet, an analysis of their current condition and an indication of the needs of the individual patient. This procedure always includes the preparation of the nail plate, the aim of which is to ensure that the nails can grow and develop properly and to prevent ingrown nails. This is followed by the removal of excessive amounts of dead, keratinised epidermis in such a way as not to disturb healthy tissue. Depending on the current condition of the feet, different types of cosmetics are applied to nourish and moisturise. The frequency of treatments should be maintained at an interval of 4 to 5 weeks - this is determined individually depending on needs. The treatment should be performed throughout the year to maintain long-lasting effects.
