During a recent creative project carried out at our hotel, we had the pleasure of talking to Maja Laptos, founder of the brand 'Maja Laptos Studio', which creates unique and exclusive decorations. Among other things, we talked about her passion for interiors with a unique character, her inspirations for creating decorations and her ideas for Christmas arrangements in Quadrille interiors.

The MAJA LAPTOS STUDIO brand was created by Maja Laptos, who has always been fascinated by interiors, especially the final stage of decorating them - namely styling and decorating.
"The styling or decoration of an interior is, in my opinion, the icing on the cake in the long process of designing it, which very often has a decisive influence on the final result. The style and, above all, the quality of the accessories and decorations determine not only the appearance of the interior, but also its reception by household members and guests. Personally, I have always valued good quality, timeless accessories that stand the test of time and do not blindly follow trends. In decorating, I always follow the 'less is more' principle. Despite this, I very much like Jonathan Adler-style interiors, which are definitely not designed with this principle in mind. I appreciate his recognisable style and aesthetic, which, although maximalist, in my opinion is not overwhelming and works well in both classic domestic interiors and hotels - if introduced well."
Maja Laptos created decorative cushions under a different brand for almost 10 years, in parallel working for large companies in the education market. Designing cushions from fabrics, which she searched all over the world to put together interesting compositions, was a break from her day job. In 2018, she decided to put everything on the line and tackle exclusive cushions at 100% with embroidery, which, although known for many years, was not often used on decorative cushions. She aimed her products at the most demanding customers.
"I value quality materials and workmanship and timelessness. I look for high quality fabrics and finishes and focus on sustainable production - we don't make cushions 'in stock', each one is made to order - both those for the individual customer and those for our distributors. We work with a local workshop, respecting the craftsmanship and experience of the people employed there. Our production is definitely not mass"
Maja Laptos draws inspiration from everywhere, in fact, and it is difficult to point to one or a few specific sources. Nature, art, literature, sometimes a particular interior....
"The idea for the design arises in my head and the first thing I do is imagine the finished cushion with that particular design. What will it look like? What do I want its character to be? Will it be in the style of the MAJA LAPTOS STUDIO brand? I design in a variety of styles, which is why my cushions find their way into so many different places and styles. It's hard to describe the process - it's always a bit different. I believe I have good taste, a sense of style and proportion - this is what guides me when creating my cushions and styling interiors with them."
When presenting her products, she juxtaposes them with the right interior to emphasise and bring out their full potential. She chooses the space very precisely, looking at it through the prism of her brand philosophy. During a recent project at the Quadrille Hotel, the reception area inspired the designer to create a magical Christmas arrangement inside the venue.
"I first thought of Hotel Quadrille during a conversation with the friendly interior photographers Fotomohito, when we were jointly considering interiors in which to present my cushions from the Christmas collection. December 2019 was approaching, and I was just contemplating Christmas patterns. With my eyes, I saw my Christmas cushions with classic Christmas patterns: nutcrackers and candy canes in the reception area of the hotel, which is one of my favourite places - a fireplace, an armchair from Magis and a chessboard on the floor... Imaginations became reality this year. The result was a beautiful, magical Christmas set-up and photo shoot. Earlier, thanks to the kindness of the management and the owners of the hotel, it was possible to organise several cushion sessions from the Studio's other collections, including the Wonderland collection with its magical and playful designs, which fitted perfectly with the hotel's original and fairytale-like interiors."
