On 25 March this year, Quadrille had the opportunity to host Family Businesses. This unique meeting was organised by PROT and the City of Gdynia. We are proud to be one of these companies and are delighted that the interiors of the Orłowo Palace were chosen as the venue for the meeting.
What are family businesses?
Family businesses account for 70 to 80% of all companies that operate in Gdynia. What characterises them? Apart from the top level, of course, which is usually the family, it is also the rootedness of the company in the city. These are companies whose owners have been connected with Gdynia for many years, for many generations. During the meeting it was repeatedly pointed out how important these companies are for local communities.
- Family businesses constitute a significant part of the Polish economy and the vast majority within the micro, small and medium-sized enterprise sector. They have existed on the Polish market since time immemorial, but it was only the geopolitical changes of 1989 that led to their dynamic flourishing. Subsequent economic crises, which encompassed the Polish market, confirmed that family businesses, with their multi-generational DNA, adapt better to unfavourable conditions. In this respect, it is impossible not to appreciate the great support of the City of Gdynia, which is implementing a very valuable project to bring together, support and promote local family businesses. It is within the framework of this project that we have the opportunity to meet on a regular basis, exchange experiences or train. The meeting at the Quadrille Hotel is a prime example of this. May there be more, may it continue," says Tomasz Surowiec, CEO of Hermes.
