The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is an effective, natural and safe method of healing the body, developed in Australia and well-known in many European countries. Its main goal involves boosting the dormant healing process in our body.

The Bowen therapy brings perfect results regarding health and mood improvement in the case of ischialgia, arthritis, allergy, asthma, migraine, Lyme disease, scoliosis, athletic injuries, multiple sclerosis, need to boost immunological system and many other. The treatment can alleviate back pain during pregnancy, and is also recommended for people working under pressure, whom the Bowen technique brings respite and relaxation.

The treatment can last from 15 to 90 minutes, depending on the applied procedure and the reaction of human body, and involves gentle moves with fingers over the patient’s skin, either bare skin or covered with light clothing. Between each set of moves, several-minute breaks are applied, which gives the body sufficient time to react and begin the self-healing process.

The results can usually be observed already after the first treatment, whereas the body continues the healing process for several days. Usually a few treatments are sufficient to let the body manage several conditions. It is recommended to repeat the treatment every 7 to 10 days. The Bowen technique should not be combined with other therapies – it is worth having at least 5 day break (both before and after the treatment).

It is assumed that the moves performed by therapists stimulate the receptors of deep sensation pathways located in the connective tissue, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The process shall boost the body to resume its natural health condition. Another feature of the Bowen technique phenomenon is that the areas where the moves are performed cover the so-called trigger points. By clearing these points the pain is alleviated and muscle coordination as well as joint mobility is improved. Interestingly, most of the moves are made in those parts of the body where the acupuncture points are located, and some cross over two or three meridians at the same time.

Unlike other manual therapies, during the Bowen procedure no enforced pressure is applied and no results are forced. The therapist lets our body do the work on its own, at our own pace, as per our abilities, and without any operations and medication. It is a great advantage of the Bowen technique.
